ABOUT ALEXEI DYMOV

Montreal´s diverse population underscores the struggle to balance the integration of its unique cultural foundation with the enriching knowledge of foreign concepts and attitudes. As a recently naturalized citizen of Canada, illustrator Alexei Dymov confronts this encounter through his creative projects, which include the book Great Russians. Portraits and Beyond. This reader-friendly book of portraits of well-known Russians from Peter the Great to Vladimir Putin delivers both facts and insights that facilitate an understanding of the development of Russian culture and tradition. His individual style of "symbolic portraiture" emphasizes the connection between the individual´s inner character and his/her contribution to world history.

Illustrations and graphic design by Alexei Dymov have been exhibited in the Xerox Tower (May 2002), the International Winter Art Festival Maple Leaves (November 2002) and a solo exhibition Alexei’ Points of View at Dawson College (December 2002). The book Great Russians was presented in Montreal at La Petite Russie - the trade centre of the Russian Community (September 2003). He has had his works published in the magazine Creations, in various local newspapers and scholastic publications. He is the author of the project Portraits and Beyond included the books of the well-known Russians, Canadians and Jews. His company Creative Reflections offers portraiture-all styles and mediums. In December 2002, Alexei received a grant from the Foundation du Maire de Montreal pour la jeunesse, the first for the Russian Community of Montreal, in recognition of his dedicated effort to visually bridge the gap between eastern and western cultures. His work clearly states that the diversity of Montreal´s people is the strength and soul of this great city
